Yoga for PTSD Training | a trauma informed yoga training annually at SYF

SYF Gives Back is something we’ve been doing from the start.  Utilizing this event as platform to serve and in our case, we’ve been offering some form of trauma informed yoga training at SYF since the beginning. We have trained hundreds of yoga teachers and brought awareness to the devastating effects of Post Traumatic Stress in our communities across the country. We’ve called this program all sorts of things from Yoga for Veterans and Yoga for First Responders to Yoga for PTSD, with one simple aim: Provide the tools to alleviate the effects of trauma, of suffering.  A trauma sensitive yoga training takes into account the specific aspects of traditional yoga practices that ameliorate the effects of trauma and stress on the human nervous system. Yoga is and has always been the healing balm to soothe the injured human nervous system, ergo a Yoga for PTSD training, a trauma sensitive yoga training, trauma informed yoga training… Call it what you will, we know what outcomes have emerged from this training.  We know that by training hundreds we have impacted thousands. This year we are going back to our roots, quite literally… as it was the Mindful Yoga Therapy team who were key members of the first cadre we put together for Mindful Therapeutic Yoga Practices for Veterans.

Consciousness News

Inner Worlds, Outer Worlds by Daniel Schmidt

Excellent documentary on connecting the inner and outer worlds of consciousness.

Power of the Sovereign Spirit | SuperConsciousness Magazine

For a growing number of people focusing on matters of consciousness, sacred knowledge and personal freedom, the reclamation of the word sovereign has become profoundly consequential. Within this paradigm, to recognize oneself as a sovereign being is to acknowledge one’s own total spiritual autonomy and unconditional entitlement to self‐determination. It is a primary avowal of oneself as a free and natural human being — not a serf, a subject, a corporate entity, or even a citizen. No persons or man‐made laws have any jurisdiction whatsoever over a sovereign being. This is all very alarming for any empire that secretly prefers its populace to feel toothless.

Most Problems Today Were Once Solutions. | norabateson

Time has come and gone, and sits now at the window —watching. When I was a child I sat at tables of concerned and brilliant people who discussed the fate of the world with great passion. It was the early 70’s and publications were springing up around the globe to announce the need to change the way humanity was living with each other and the biosphere. The radical revolutionaries were penning beautiful texts on systems theory, cybernetics, ecology, new forms of education, steady state economics, and exploratory versions of non-violent democracies. It was quite clear at my dinner table in 1976 that there were a few basic steps to be taken immediately to save mankind and the planet. They were: be respectful to all cultures, save the ecology, offer equal opportunity to all, resist runaway capitalism, and stop building nuclear weapons. More than 40 years later, whatever measures have been taken, no matter how well intended, we must admit that they have not been enough. While we may be ready now to embrace some of the criteria for survival from the mid-seventies – it is no longer the seventies. While still viable, these criteria appear quaint and insufficient now. Fixing economies, making civil rights laws, or developing sustainable architecture seems now to have been merely a form of prolongation of the epistemology that defaults to exploitation. Incremental change, it would appear, was an idea that ate decades. So, from this beginning point, (which is really a middle point), we sit today, with father time, by the window, watching.
